To the Management of Solus Garden & Leisure Limited
On behalf of everyone at Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice I would like to say a big thank you for the tools you donated on Tuesday of this week. Neil Grant of Ferndale Garden Centre, Coal Aston arranged this in conjunction with a team building day for Hallam FM who came to the Hospice to provide some garden maintenance.
The hospice has been opened since 2008 and we have 150 families registered with us. We have a 4 acre garden and when it opened the Green Fingers appeal provided , designed and created the garden. We are eager to maintain this peaceful area for our families and rely totally on volunteers to maintain it.
We are concentrating on developing our garden further. One company have already come along and created a vegetable garden with raised beds and wheelchair access and the children love to pick things like courgettes, tomatoes, strawberries etc and take them to the Chef for use in the kitchen.
The next thing we are looking at is an Orchard and in particular one area with cordon fruit trees so that the children can pick their own fruit. We are also concentrating on adding perfume and colour so that those of our children who are totally wheelchair bound or visually impaired can enjoy the smells and bright colours.
We have had a number of companies who have contacted us asking if they can come and help in the garden with groups from 5 - 30 people so you can see that we are really grateful for the tools which will enable us to utilise more volunteers on these projects.
The garden is a very special place for our families so thank you once again for your generosity

Not only this, but consumers will have even more access to two of the most recognisable and respected tools brands on the market today.
Rob Giles, Brand Manager for both Yeoman and Joseph Bentley, said: “The Blooming Great Deals offer is designed to help garden centres drive sales during peak season. The 2 for £10 hand tool promotions for Yeoman and Joseph Bentley have been set up to supply an appealing consumer offer, as well as simple and impactful point of sale. Both deals will arm consumers with the tools that they need to tackle a range of gardening jobs this season.”
Offering high impact displays, the 2 for £10, three-tiered displays will include a choice of three traditional Joseph Bentley Stainless Steel Hand Tools. For the market leading Yeoman brand, there will be a choice of three value-for-money 18-inch midi hand tools, perfect for working in containers and preventing backache through excess bending.
Rob Giles added: “Yeoman’s popularity has risen rapidly in the last few years. In fact, sales of Yeoman tools accounted for over 11.7% of all tool sales from January until December 2010, the largest market share of garden tool sales from a single brand in the UK. Additionally, Joseph Bentley’s market share has tripled in the space of two years, representing the significant progress Solus have made with this brand. We will be looking to develop our garden tool offering even further over the coming years, with Yeoman and Joseph Bentley driving forward together.”

P-O-P success for Yeoman!
Due to the success of its Autumn promotion, leading garden tools brand Yeoman, a Solus brand, is stepping up its point -of –purchase (P-O-P) video promotion for Spring 2011.
The innovative promotional videos, which were used throughout the Autumn as part of the Solus Autumn Price Fall campaign, have had a direct positive impact on sales of featured products.
The two stage Autumn promotion focussed on two products: The Telescopic Tree Pruner with Fruit Picker Attachment, ideal for early Autumn and the fruit harvesting season, and The Bypass Geared Lopper suitable for late Autumn when focus shifts to pruning ahead of Winter. The video screens were neatly displayed on a branded stand, with accompanying product range, showing each product in use, with clear explanations of different settings, unique selling points and intricate detail and uses.
The promotion was used by hundreds of stockists around the UK and brought over £1500 of extra sales to some customers this Autumn. As a whole the promotion added a substantial amount to the turnover of the Solus Autumn Price Fall campaign, with a significant amount attributed to sales turnover of the Bypass Geared Lopper alone.
Robert Giles, Yeoman brand manager said, “As a result of the success of this promotion we are looking to use video point of purchase material all year and some garden centres have already switched into stage 2, featuring the Ratchet Secateur for the period between Christmas and Spring. The Spring season sees more exciting products featured on the video stand which are sure to attract interest, including the Ratchet Lopper and Lightweight Telescopic Geared Hedge Shear. Both products are ideal for Spring, focussing on tidying up the garden in anticipation of Summer”.
“Going forward we will continue to focus on exciting products with unique selling points for this display in order to drive up sales for our customers,” continued Robert.
